Materials for Sustainability

Smart Devices

Smart Materials

Materials developed to have properties that changes with the environment. The changes give information of the environment with no power consumption. Among the applications of these materials designed and manufactured by the center are the detection of gases or the measurement of the amount of CO2 in the environment.
Nanomaterials

Nanomaterials

Design, fabrication and fine-tuning of nanomaterials to support rapid technological advancement. Among the center's activities under this line of research are the development of thin lenses, sensors, communication systems, etc.
Security Devices

Security Devices

Development of security devices that can be inserted into objects where counterfeiting is a mayor problem (ex. money) ensuring their authenticity. The technology is based on liquid crystal oriented anisotropic dyes that provide a double latent image. Both images are hidden unless viewed through polarizers.
